The Medical Laboratory Assistant program comprises of 24 weeks of practical and theoretical studies in order to prepare graduates for the work environment. 

Entrance Requirements & Training

Students are introduced to technical areas of medical terminology, the clinical laboratory, and laboratory mathematics. Fundamental instruction in chemistry and biology is delivered through laboratory microbiology, cytology and histology, and hematology. The program is delivered through a combination of lectures, demonstrations, and hands-on experience. Anatomy, physiology, quality assurance, and safety procedures are also components of the program. The program also includes a 6-week practicum placement.

Every year, the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) celebrates the National Medical Laboratory Week to recognize the vital role that medical laboratory professional play in the effective functioning of Canada's health care systems. 

From prenatal care to chronic disease management and end-of-life care, medical laboratory professionals support clinical decisions throughout a patient's lifetime.
